Anna Silver is a painter of a different sort of canvas. Her medium is one of functional forms: cups, bowls, teapots, vessels, oversized plates and platters, sculpture and even jewelry. Silver's work over four decades, both prodigious and varied, has been included in significant museum collections in the United States, Europe, and Asia, including the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and others. Fiber artist Karyl Sisson finds inspiration in the the beauty and simplicity of ancient, indigenous, and animal architecture, organic growth, and patterns found in nature (as with the coral-like sculpture in the photo above). Using recycled or repurposed materials (like old cloth tape measures, wood clothespins, vintage paper drinking straws and vintage zippers), Sisson explores in her own words "the physical and psychological properties of holes, cavities, insides and outsides."
