Judy Chicago at Jeffrey Deitch

October 21, 2019 • 8:00 am - October 28, 2019 PDT
Jeffrey Deitch, 925 N Orange Dr
Los Angeles, CA 90038

On View through November 2nd. Before Judy Chicago created her well-known feminist artwork, The Dinner Party, or co-founded the Feminist Art Program at CalArts, she was delving into minimalism—a genre that has been basically defined by men. Contrasting her peers’ work of the era (more masculine steel geometric forms or red resin cubes) Chicago’s minimal forms were hued in joyous pastels. At Jeffrey Dietch, a selection of such works from 1965-72 are on view, offering a unique insight into the artist’s multifaceted…

All of Them Witches at Jeffrey Deitch

February 18, 2020 - February 25, 2020
Jeffrey Deitch, 925 N Orange Dr
Los Angeles, CA 90038

On view: February 8–April 11, 2020 Witchy subject matter has made its way into the art world over the past several years — artists cast spells, reference the occult, and delve into ritual and fantasy. A show at Jeffrey Deitch in Hollywood groups together mostly women artists who fit the bewitching bill. Curators Dan Nadel and Laurie Simmons corralled a thoughtful selection of work that applies the “witch” theme more broadly to ideas of gender, sexuality, and the power of…

Jeffrey Deitch, 925 N Orange Dr
Los Angeles, CA 90038

Kenny Scharf has been slowly building up a spray-painted cast of characters to prepare for his latest show at Jeffrey Deitch Gallery, “MOODZ.” Every day over the last several months, Scharf has painted a few more of his signature faces directly on the gallery walls. Now 250 of Sharf’s characters line the sprawling gallery space, each one a unique expression of the artist’s personality.  They undoubtedly express the panoply of emotions that the recent months have elicited. With the absence of…

Paintings by local favorites like rafa esparza, Simphiwe…

Nari Ward at Jeffrey Deitch

June 5, 2021 - August 21, 2021
Jeffrey Deitch, 925 N Orange Dr
Los Angeles, CA 90038

Nari Ward’s “Say Can You See” immediately evokes themes of Americana. The artist works with found objects — shoes, clothing, bottles, oven pans, fire hoses, church pews — that embody a rich material history and symbolism. For the central work, “Still Lives with Step Ladders,” the artist took inspiration from memorials that popped up in his neighborhood in Harlem over the last year, and how the flowers, bottles, and photographs often look like Morandi-esque still lifes.  The large arrangement of…

Ariana Papademetropoulos at Jeffrey Deitch

September 4, 2021 - October 23, 2021
Jeffrey Deitch, 925 N Orange Dr
Los Angeles, CA 90038

In “The Emerald Tablet” at Jeffrey Deitch, artist Ariana Papademetropoulos builds context around her own effervescent and dreamy paintings. A gallery in the front of the space presents five new works by the artist, while the remainder of the expansive exhibition, curated by Papademetropoulos,  builds a robust conversation around mysticism.  The artist’s own large scale paintings are beautifully rendered scenes in which apparitions act as portals to other dimensions (figures are rendered next to transparent doubles and majestic orbs float…
