VALIE EXPORT: Embodied at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture

RSVP

A pioneer of postwar feminist art, VALIE EXPORT has redefined the fields of conceptual art, performance, and expanded cinema. VALIE EXPORT: Embodied at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture is her first solo presentation in Los Angeles since 2001 and explores works from her seminal ‘photo-graphic’ series, Body Configurations (1972-1976). VALIE EXPORT: Embodied presents this body of work in order to reflect on the artist’s early investigations into the politics of space, the act of image-making, and the body as an “ideological and technological device.”

In addition to Body Configurations, this long-awaited exhibition at the MAK Center includes two video works by VALIE EXPORT including Adjunct Dislocations (1973) and Syntagma (1984). The exhibition is accompanied by a robust contemporary performance program organized by Chloë Flores featuring Los Angeles-based artists responding to VALIE EXPORT’s work and the Schindler House.
