Uta Barth

Ahead of Uta Barth’s upcoming exhibition at The Getty, galleries 1301 PE and Tanya Bonakdar have mounted dual exhibitions (curated by Jan Tumlir) by the LA-based photographer that muse upon the age-old dichotomy of figure and ground. 1301’s exhibition features a suite of Barth’s pictures devoid of the human form. By contrast, Tanya Bonakdar’s installation includes photographs that include a human form, often subtly. Works by a selection of artists influential to Barth are also included in each exhibition.
