Up Close & Personal: John Prine & Sturgill Simpson

Buy Tickets

GRAMMY Pro will bring their exclusive Up Close & Personal program to the GRAMMY Museum for a special evening with American country/roots singer/songwriters John Prine and Sturgill Simpson. The artists will dive deep into their creative process, especially as it relates to songwriting, during an intimate conversation moderated by singer/songwriter and music journalist Paul Zollo. The conversation will be followed by a special performance featuring John Prine. Long considered a “songwriter’s songwriter,” two-time GRAMMY winner John Prine is a rare talent whose writing is greatly admired by his peers. Performers who have recorded from his extensive catalog include Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, the Everly Brothers, John Denver, Kris Kristofferson, Carly Simon, Ben Harper, Joan Baez, George Strait, Old Crow Medicine Show, Norah Jones, Bette Midler, Miranda Lambert, and many others. From his eponymously titled first LP release in 1971, Prine has continued to write and perform songs that have become central to our American musical heritage. Sturgill Simpson released his third full-length album, A Sailor’s Guide To Earth, on April 15, selling 55,000 units in its first week and debuting at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Country Albums chart and No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Produced by Simpson, A Sailor’s Guide To Earth was written — beginning to end — as a letter to his first child, who arrived during the summer of 2014. The album is the follow-up to his breakthrough, GRAMMY-nominated 2014 release Metamodern Sounds In Country Music.
