Sudan Archives blends R&B, hip-hop, folk, and electronic music with West African fiddling. With releases on Stones Throw label, including EPs and albums like Athena and Natural Brown Prom Queen, she’s made waves. A self-taught violinist, singer, and producer from Cincinnati, Ohio, Sudan Archives started young, influenced by her stepfather, Derrick Ladd, a former music executive. Despite early attempts at a pop career, Sudan Archives found her niche in Los Angeles, where she honed her unique sound blending vocals, beats, and strings, influenced by Sudanese music. Collaborations with artists like Hi-Tek and Nosaj Thing have shaped her evolving style, showcased in her latest album.

Los Angeles native Angela Muñoz makes a stunning debut with her album Introspection on Linear Labs. A prodigious talent, Muñoz writes and sings with a depth beyond her years. Her mesmerizing voice exudes strength and skill, shaped by a wealth of personal experiences and extensive training in the art of sound. Muñoz sees music as the expression of emotion, finding her own liberation and power within it. With her commanding presence, she is poised to leave an indelible mark on the music scene for years to come.

KCRW Presents: Sudan Archives at UCLA Royce Hall on Thursday, May 16 with support from Angela Muñoz.
