In conjunction with the special exhibition, William Kentridge: In Praise of Shadows, The Broad presents Speaking in Gabrielino and When We Dream in Bittersweet Tongues an evening of programming centered on the effects of colonialism on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) literature, language, and music.

Immerse yourself in an evening that will feature Lazaro Arvizu, Jr. and Virginia Carmelo, some of the last remaining Gabrielino language speaking Tongva people, richly diverse poets Shonda Buchanan, féi hernandez, and San Francisco poet laureate Tongo Eisen-Martin addressing topics such as the personal discovery of multi-ethnic experience, unearthing ancient codes for a safer world in the now, and empowerment and social justice, and a live djembe and movement performance by M’Baye Kante and Haniyyah Tahirah honoring personal cultural heritage.

This is an evening you won’t want to miss! Buy tickets now at thebroad.org.
