Montreal-bases artist Sophie Lukacs brings the mesmerizing sounds of the kora to life in her captivating performances. After seven years of immersive study in Mali with kora masters Habib Koité and Toumani Diabaté, Sophie has developed a unique musical voice. She is one of the few women in the world to master the traditional West African instrument, usually passed down through generations of men in griot families, making female kora players a true rarity.
Her acclaimed album Bamako won Global Roots Album of the Year at the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards.
In this captivating performance, Sophie will transport you with her rich kora melodies, accompanied by bass and percussion, and vocals in French, Hungarian, and Bambara.
