“Shattered Glass” at Jeffrey Deitch

RSVP

The impressively scaled 40-person exhibition “Shattered Glass” is now on view at Jeffrey Deitch in Hollywood. Featuring an international group of artists of color, the show focuses on figurative works that take up space, each unapologetic in their depictions. The exhibition is a masterclass on figuration, with styles ranging from the surreal bodies of Bryant Giles, to the photorealism of Delfin Finley, to the angelic women floating skyward in Ambrose’s fabric constructions.

Paintings by local favorites like rafa esparza, Simphiwe Ndzube, and Mario Ayala are hung next to artists hailing from London, Dominican Republic, and beyond—Chinaza Agbor, Phumelele Tshabalala, and Raelis Vasquez. The exhibition, curated by gallery director Melahn Frierson and curator, educator, and art historian AJ Girard expands the conversation of racial inequity beyond the borders of our own national conversation into a more urgent international reckoning.
