This summer, Community Arts Workshop in Santa Barbara and local grassroots theater company On the Verge Summer Repertory Theatre have announced that they are joining forces to create a vibrant artist hub in the heart of Downtown. On The Verge, now in it’s third season will bring new, explosive, raw performances during a two week festival. With six new plays, live music nightly, free yoga, beer, wine, and cheap ticket prices, there is something for everyone! The artistic team includes Kate Bergstrom (Artistic Director), Riley Berris, Jessica Ballonoff, and Josiah Davis (Associate Artistic Directors). This group works to curate work for a new kind of audience, one who arrives hungry to share an experience and leaves with a new perspective.

On The Verge will be presenting three new works as a part of their mainstage season including, Michael Perlman’s “At the Table”, a fast-paced glimpse into a close friend group’s getaway as contrasting personalities and new identities collide; Thais Francis’ “OUTCRY”, a thoughtful illumination of iconic African-American’s facing the epidemic of police brutality in America today; Julia Izumi’s “A Likely Pair”, a twist on the Adam & Eve creation story. In addition, a rapid-fire duo of new short plays, “FEMFEST: Talkback” by Maggie Yates and “peanutbutterjellybagelcreamcheese” by Danielle Draper & Lindsey Twigg, will premiere along with a reading of “Meanwhile There Are Letters” by Declan Hughes presented with UCSB’s Launch Pad Program and The Margaret Millar Charitable Trust.

“The work that On The Verge brings to our space is really special,” said Casey Caldwell, Site-Manager for the CAW. “We don’t generally see this kind of material presented in Santa Barbara. The company is wonderfully diverse and inclusive and the plays they present ask pressing questions that our community wants to talk about. We are so delighted to be able to sponsor their use of the space, helping to empower this young entrepreneurial company as it grows.”

Each summer, we produce works created by female and LGBTG writers with a company of passionate artists and collaborators. We are dedicated to engaging the community by producing bold theatrical pieces, taking relevant artistic risks, and creating performances with the vibrant pool of talent that theSanta Barbara and greater Los Angeles areas have to offer.

This season we will fearlessly and unapologetically spark conversation through emotional, comedic, and provocative pieces. Our dedication to engaging and complicating the fight for female, people of color, and LGBTQ rights on our stages will be more tangible than ever.

On the Verge will present their work August 3-13. For more information on their performances or company, visit their website at www.onthevergefest.org
