MOLAA Zoom Project: Marta Minujín

RSVP

March 17, 2021 • 11:00 am PDT

The Museum of Latin American Art presents Chapter 9 of The MOLAA Zoom Project, featuring Marta Minujín. In each chapter of this series, MOLAA Chief Curator Gabriela Urtiaga talks with the most remarkable artists from Latin-America and Latinxs in the US. Their conversation places the focus on a series or specific artwork which requires a close inspection and deliberate process of contemplation and exploration; delving into the ideas surrounding the creation of the works, their sources of research and inspiration, in an effort to immerse ourselves in the world of the artists.

Marta Minujín is a multi-disciplinary artist born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She was a pioneer in the pop art scene in Buenos Aires. She deconstructs art only to reconstruct it again, examining the mythology and symbols of both contemporary and ancient cultures. Her work utilizes the medium as the message, in order to make work not only about a static object, but about the audience’s relationship to the concepts and history surrounding it. Minujín’s work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York; the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach; the Museo of Arte Latinoamericano in Buenos Aires; and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires, among others.
