Misha Kahn at Dries Van Noten

The fashion brand Dries Van Noten has recently delved into exhibition-making at its La Cienega outpost with shows in a back gallery space. Currently on view is designer Misha Kahn, whose expressive furniture could stand toe to toe with abstract sculptural works devoid of utility. Curving lines and bulbous, upholstered felt squiggles interlock to create an expressive couch; sewn fabric shapes are fused together then lacquered in automotive paint to become anthropomorphized lamps that look like inflated mylar balloon constructions. The exhibition is fantastically playful and exposes how lively design objects can find resonance within our daily living spaces as much as in art exhibitions.
