Live Read with Randall Park
June 23, 2019 • 7:30 pm PDT
Capping off our incredible season of programming at The Wallis, which has included a stage reading of My Dinner with Andre with Michael Keaton and Paula Pell; an exploration of the world of Deadwood with Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant; and a surprise musical performance from Childish Gambino, Film Independent is proud to welcome guest director Randall Park for a special Live Read. Park has long shown a deft sensibility for subtle and often dry comedy. Over the course of his career, he has endeared himself to audiences with hilarious, authentic performances; including as Louis Huang on ABC’s hit sitcom Fresh off the Boat and Marcus Kim in the new Netflix feature Always Be My Maybe. Along with Maybe cowriters Ali Wong and Michael Golamco, Park created a character that truly showcases the signature droll humor we can expect at The Wallis on June 23.
You never know what’s going to happen at a Film Independent Presents event – and this Live Read will be no exception. Live Reads are once-in-a-lifetime events, meant to be experienced in person and in the company of other, enraptured film enthusiast. Over the course of eight years, we’ve seen Patrick Stewart play the titular role of Dr. Strangelove, Ellen Page as Chris in the all-female reading of Stand by Me, Keegan-Michael Key as Jack in Sideways, and Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette recreating their iconic roles of Clarence Worley and Alabama Whitman in True Romance. Like his predecessors, Randall Park is certain to bring out an eclectic cast that will make this evening at The Wallis yet another in a long list that you can’t afford to miss.
