KCRW Summer Nights with Cabrillo Marine Aquarium
June 8, 2024 - 6:30 pm PDT
Join KCRW for a nautical party at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium! Dance to sets from KCRW DJs Anne Litt and Jason Kramer, grab a bite and drink, meander through life-sized inflatable whales, and explore the wonders of the aquarium and our local beaches. There will be a whole lot of love happening on the beach as thousands of silvery grunion fish hurl themselves onto the sand for their strange and fascinating mating ritual.
The fun doesn’t stop there. Meet artist John Van Hamersveld, the artist behind the “Endless Summer” movie poster and countless album covers. We will unveil his latest mural and he will sign prints. And join Sexologist and certified dating coach, Myisha Battle, host of How’s Your Sex Life? and KCRW’s own Steve Chiotakis for a deep dive into dating. Let’s kick off summer with a party by the beach that you won’t want to miss!
This event is all ages.

ABOUT CABRILLO MARINE AQUARIUM
Since 1935, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium has been THE place to learn about Southern California marine life. Located within the bustling Port of Los Angeles, the Aquarium offers a unique juxtaposition between commerce and nature–where huge cargo ships and whales traverse the same channels and the surrounding Coastal Park offers opportunities to visit tidepools, a sandy beach and a salt marsh. This Frank-Gehry designed Aquarium is free, with donations requested, but never required. It remains one of the top field trip destinations in Los Angeles County, with more than half of its 220,000 annual visitors arriving on field trip buses. One of its signature programs takes visitors out on the moonlit beach to watch thousands of silvery grunion fish hurl themselves up on the sand for a strange but fascinating mating ritual.
Support for Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is provided by The Crail-Johnson Foundation, California Sulphur, and The Roth Family Foundation.
