Jazz In The Ballroom: Denise Thimes & Marlonius Jazz Orchestra

The Sunday “Jazz In The Ballroom” concerts, based on Betty Hoover’s beloved Jazz at the A-Frame concert series, is back!

Four summer jazz concerts launch on June 22 with the Jazz at the A-Frame star, Denise Thimes, in a rare L.A. appearance! And featuring the Marlonius Jazz Orchestra!

Currently starring with the Count Basie Orchestra, Denise Thimes has sung all over the world, with artists as diverse as David Sanborn and Wynton Marsalis “Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra”.  Denise has sung for the Queen of Thailand, for Queen Elizabeth II, for President George W Bush, and was handpicked by the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, to perform for her 72^nd birthday celebration!  As legendary trumpet player, Clark Terry, put it, Denise’s voice “ranks with all of the greats.”

The Marlonius Jazz Orchestra (MJO) is a custom, handpicked band of young musicians, who already play with jazz giants.  They have performed with music legends, including Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Wayne Shorter Michael Bublé and Tony Bennett.  The MJO led by the bass virtuoso, Marlon Martinez, who is the Billy Strayhorn Scholar-In-Residence at the Colburn School.  They combine the lush sound of Duke Ellington, with the excitement of cutting edge jazz!
