Band Bios:

Sister Mantos:
When Sister Mantos takes the stage, their psychedelic blend of LATIN BEATS, PUNK ATTITUDE, and FUNK RHYTHMS invigorate the crowd to dance, sing and rejoice. Sister Mantos sings songs in Spanish and English about love, QUEER & POC empowerment, and utopias that are free of war and oppression. Sister Mantos is a solo performance band or a huge orchestra depending on the time and place but a guaranteed party either way. Audiences are sent on a spaced out psychedelic road trip and treated to mystical experience of spastic dancing, bumping beats, and POSITIVE ENERGY. Originally started as an alias for a solo music/art performance project by Oscar Miguel Santos in 2008, Sister Mantos has transformed into a live band multi-instrumental band that traverses sonic genres.

Machetres:
“Machetres”- a slang for a machete tied to a G3 riffle used by uprising Central American indigenous communities during the 1980s civil wars. During the summer of 1997, Lilo Gonzalez Jr. (guitar & voice) emigrated from El Salvador to Washington, DC. He formed Machetres with Salvadoran born Paul Gonzalez joined Machetres as bass guitarist. Now based in Los Angeles, the lineup is a trio and features Ryan Bukstein on the drums.

The band epitomizes a musical blend of rock / punk and Latin beats to songs that often refer back to their personal lives and the troubles that they as well as other Latin immigrants face. This personal reflection is the inspiration behind their enthusiastic commitment to their support of grassroots organization by performing benefit concerts throughout the community. During the years, Machetres has shared the stage with great bands like Café Tacuba, El Vez, Fugazi, Molotov, and The MakeUp.

Oscura Luna:
Oscura Luna is a Xicana band from East Los Angeles. They invite you on a smooth Chicano Oldies ride, then crash you into a wave of Surf Rock that drives you back home to the nostalgic era of the 90’s. Through the heart breaks and patriarchal barriers, the right to empower and enrich women was built. With members Milca Mojica, Andrea Borges, Yasmyn Herrera, and Crystal Coast, the Oscura Luna journey began. Together, they bring energetic vibrations you can feel in your bones that make you want to shake your caderas.
