Hollyhock House Films on the Green

This summer, cinephiles won’t need to go further than Barnsdall Art Park in Hollywood to experience the excitement and drama of sports with a French flair, thanks to Films on the Green, Villa Albertine’s free outdoor French film festival presented in partnership with the Louis Roederer Foundation and TV5MONDE and made possible in Los Angeles by Hollyhock House and the Department of Cultural Affairs.

“French cinema has been celebrated recently in Hollywood with successful films like Anatomy of a Fall. We hope that Films on the Green will help spark a similar energy in our local communities and bring people together around a shared love of cinema, cultural exchange, and the outdoors” said Mohamed Bouabdallah, Cultural Counselor of France in the United States and Director of Villa Albertine. My Donkey, My Lover & I is a comedy where filmgoers follow Antoinette, a devoted schoolteacher, as she plans a summer getaway with her secret lover, Vladimir. When unexpected plans arise, she turns her disappointment into a daring escapade in the Cévennes National Park, accompanied by an unlikely yet endearing sidekick, a donkey named Patrick. Films on the Green started over 15 years ago as a small film series in local New York City community gardens. Since then, it has blossomed into a beloved summer tradition, hotly anticipated by film buffs and casual viewers alike. This summer the festival will take place in six American cities, a new record for the festival and a testament to the ongoing enthusiasm for diverse and accessible outdoor film experiences. Hollyhock House, part of the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, is Frank Lloyd Wright’s first Los Angeles commission (1921) and the City’s only UNESCO World Heritage site. Villa Albertine and Albertine Foundation would like to thank Films on the Green’s 2024 official sponsors The Louis Roederer Foundation and TV5MONDE. Explore the full program here. #FilmsOnTheGreen
