Fabiola Menchelli at Marshall Contemporary

RSVP

At Marshall Contemporary in Venice, the stillness of Fabiola Menchelli’s photographs and cyanotypes stands in contrast to the bustle of Abbot Kinney Blvd., where the gallery is located. Menchelli’s compositions consist of ovular abstractions that merge overlaying forms to reveal various levels of transparency and opacity. She created the images by photographing the sky through a circular cement observatory while in residency at Casa Wabi in Oaxaca.

In other works, Mechelli uses light projected into architectural spaces and then photographed to further position the camera as the vessel through which her phenomenology is captured. Through simple means, her work muses on perception, which, like light, can be changed and adapted over time.
