Experience Papua New Guinea at the Bowers Museum

The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana invites the public to discover Papua New Guinea as experts discuss its fascinating art and culture. Tribal representatives will lead cultural demonstrations surrounded by the museum’s collection of drums and boats from the South Pacific. Performances will be followed by a panel discussion that includes Mundiya Kepanga, Papuan chief from the Tari region in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea.

Come discover the land of a million journeys as experts discuss the fascinating art and culture of Papua New Guinea. Cultural performers will unveil ancient customs and one of the revered huli wigmen, a tribe known for their decadent ceremonial wigs, will share his tribal traditions in person.

11am-3pm: Live cultural demonstrations by members of Papua New Guinea tribes surrounded by Bowers collection of drums and boats from the South Pacific in our John M. Lee Court

1:00pm-3pm: (Norma Kershaw Auditorium) Tribal performances followed by a panel of cultural ambassadors, including Mundiya Kepanga, Papuan chief from the Tari region in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea.
