Evocation Field at MEY Gallery

Evocation Field is a group exhibition at MEY Gallery in collaboration with Tehran’s Bavan Gallery. As an iteration of Bavan Gallery’s “The Land of Cypress Trees” initiative, Evocation Field presents a group of cutting-edge Iranian painters, including Elham Etemadi, Ahoo Hamedi, Mehrdad Jafari, Roghayeh Najdi, Elham Pourkhani, Sanam Sayehafkan, Tarlan Tabar, and Minoo Yalsohrabi. The title of the group exhibition is a reference to the landscape imagery found throughout the work as well as the “field of dialogue” between the works and the viewers who activate them.

Several of the artists, such as Pourkhani, Sayehafkan, and Etemadi reference Persian literary traditions and Persian miniature paintings. Jafari incorporates flora into his still life while Yalsohrabi explores the relationship between food and objects. Hamedi creates watercolor and ink portraits of women, Tabar blends the human body with plants, and Najdi’s paintings of people and flora mimic photo negatives.
