Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández

In 2022, Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández celebrates its 70th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, the company returns to the Luckman for three evenings featuring renewed performances of their most celebrated classic choreography.

This occasion not only marks the 70th anniversary of Ballet Folklórico, but also the 75th anniversary of Cal State LA. Furthermore, these performances will mark the 6th, 7th, and 8th times that the legendary dance company has performed at the Luckman. Their repertory includes more than 40 ballets of exquisite choreography that pay homage to local dance traditions from over 60 regions of Mexico.

In 1952, dancer and choreographer Amalia Hernández founded the iconic Ballet Folklórico de México. Her goal was to share with the nation and the world the beauty of Mexican dance from the pre-Colombian era, the Hispanic Viceroy period, and the popular period of Mexico’s revolutionary years.
