Angélique Kidjo
Remain In Light
Sat, May 5, 2018 at 8PM

“Spirited African songbird, Angélique Kidjo channels [The] Talking Heads and burns down the house at Carnegie Hall… She not only got the capacity audience on its feet but also got everyone to dance as well.” —Zeal NYC

Three-time Grammy Award winner Angélique Kidjo is one of the most popular and renowned voices on the global music scene today. Her striking voice, stage presence and fluency in multiple cultures and languages have won respect from her peers and expanded her following across national borders. Her newest project, which she will perform as part of CAP UCLA’s 2017-18 season, is her version of the Talking Heads’ ground-breaking 1980 album, Remain in Light. Kidjo takes unforgettable songs such as “Crosseyed and Painless,” “Once in a Lifetime” and “Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On),” reinterpreting them with African guitars, electrifying rhythms and layered backing vocals. Kidjo puts her own stamp on this eternal milestone album, and pays homage to its brave vision and extraordinary power that is still as daring and innovative as it was nearly four decades ago.
