An Evening with Sherman Alexie – You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me
July 18, 2017 • 7:30 pm PDT
Reading and Performance
In an unforgettable performance, acclaimed poet, short story writer, novelist and now memoirist, Sherman Alexie brings his searing, hilarious, and deeply moving memoir, You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me to the stage. In this new book, Alexie grapples with the haunting ghosts of the past as he mourns the death of his mother and constructs a complex portrait of family, love, and loss. Journeying back to his childhood on the Spokane Indian Reservation in Wellpinit, Washington, where he grew up dirt-poor as one of four children raised by alcoholic parents, Alexie’s memoir is infused with the humor, anger, and piercing insight that permeates his critically acclaimed fiction. Sharing from this powerful account of a remarkable childhood that few can imagine, Alexie will perform and discuss his intimate new work with the ALOUD audience.
