On Tuesday, June 7, KCRW presents a special edition of The Moth Mainstage at Avalon Hollywood
“Into the Wild:  The Moth in Los Angeles”

The Moth Mainstage is the storytelling group’s hottest ticket, featuring five hand-picked storytellers who develop and shape their stories with The Moth’s directors.

HOSTED BY: 

BRIAN FINKELSTEIN is a regular performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and is also a regular host/storyteller for The Moth. He has also performed eight solo shows in a variety of venues, from the HBO/US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen to the 2014 Summer Nights Festival in Perth, Australia and New Zealand. Brian’s told stories on public radio shows including Good Food, The Business, UnFictional, Marketplace and many more. He has written for The Huffington Post and is currently working on his first book of personal essays. He also writes for TV and film and has been nominated for two Emmy’s. MELISSA CHADBURN has written for Guernica, Buzzfeed, Poets & Writers, Salon, American Public Media’s Marketplace, Al Jazeera America and dozens other places. She is currently the Community Editor for Economic Hardship Reporting Project. Her essay, The Throwaways, received notable mention in Best American Essays and Best American Nonrequired Reading. Her debut novel, A Tiny Upward Shove, is forthcoming in Spring of 2017.

MAURICE HARRIS is a creative spirit from Stockton, California. He escaped his hometown by going to art school at Otis in Los Angeles, which he now calls home! In 2010, Maurice started a flower business called Bloom & Plume. There he creates bespoke flower arrangements for events, weddings, thank you’s and everything in between. He treats the business more like an art practice by placing focus on how one experiences the arrangements. He concentrates on unusual compositions and unconventional color palettes, and scent plays a big roll as well. JONAH LEHRER is a science writer living in Los Angeles. His next book, A Book About Love, will be published by Simon & Schuster in July.

ABBAS MOUSA emigrated to the United States in 2009 from Iraq through the Special Immigrant Program for Iraqi translators and was granted U.S. citizenship. Mousa received his master’s degree in summer of 2015 in Economics and now works as an Economist for the Department of Commerce. Mousa is currently writing his memoir and has two more novels to work on after finishing his first book.

SOFIJA STEFANOVIC is a Serbian-Australian writer living in New York. She hosts the monthly literary salon Women of Letters at Joe’s Pub. She wrote the Penguin Special You’re Just Too Good To Be True, a love story about lonely hearts and internet scams. For her immersive work, she’s joined a cult, participated in exorcisms and competed in the Miss ex-Yugoslavia beauty pageant. You can find her on Twitter, @sstefanovic.

PARKING

Avalon Hollywood is located at 1735 N. Vine Street, Los Angeles CA 90028, between Yucca Street and Hollywood Boulevard.

A number of public parking lots are located in the nearby area.  Limited self-parking is available in the public parking lots located north and south of the Avalon off Vine Street and rates range between $15-$30 (cash only).  Please note: rates are subject to change.

How much are tickets for this event?

All seating is general admission by section, no reserved seating
$79.00 – Floor Front: premiere seating (theater-style folding chairs) – includes after-party!
$69.00 – Floor Mid: theater-style folding chairs + cocktail rounds – includes after-party!
$59.00 – Floor Rear: theater-style folding chairs, high stools + cocktail booths
$69.00 – Balcony Front: couch seating – includes after-party!
$39.00 – Balcony: theater-style folding chairs + high stools

What if I am late, will I still be able to be seated?
Latecomers will be seated at the first suitable break.

How do I purchase tickets?
Tickets are available online only through KCRW.com/themothlive

Will drinks be available?
Yes. There will be bars on site. Drinks will be available for purchase.
If you have purchased after-party tickets, this event will be held at Bardot, the nightclub located upstairs from the Avalon. Your ticket price includes complimentary beer and wine at the after-party only.

Where do the proceeds go?
Proceeds support KCRW and The Moth.

What happens after I order my tickets online?
At the completion of your order, you will be sent an email from tix.com, confirming your order.

 When will I get my tickets?
You will have the choice of two methods for receiving your ticket(s) at the completion of your purchase.
$3.00 – Hard tickets will be mailed to your shipping address, via First Class Mail.
$1.00 – E-ticket option will allow you to print your tickets out yourself.
Please note: Tickets purchased on or after Monday, May 30th will not have the First Class Mail option. You will still be able to print at home or you can pick up your tickets at KCRW’s will-call table 90 minutes before the show begins.

Where is KCRW will-call?
KCRW will-call is located at the front entrance of the Avalon. Your valid I.D. is required to pick-up will-call tickets.

When is KCRW will-call open?
KCRW will-call is open the day of the event only, Tuesday, June 7th, beginning at 6:30pm. Will-call will close approximately 30 minutes after the performance begins (8:30pm).

May I have my tickets left at KCRW will-call instead of having them mailed?
No. Tickets cannot be left at KCRW will-call unless purchased on or after Monday, May 30th. All tickets purchased before this date will be shipped via USPS First Class Mail or printed out at home.

What can I do if I am having trouble placing my order online?

May I take photographs or video the event?
No. Cameras and recording equipment are not permitted inside the venue.

Can I have my tickets mailed to an address other than my billing address?
Yes. Please complete the “ship to” detail on tix.com when purchasing tickets.

What if I don’t receive my tickets by mail?
If you have not received your tickets by May 30th, please email [email protected].

Can I add to my order?
No, there is an 8 ticket limit per transaction.

 Once I place an order, can I change the credit card number to be billed?

Unfortunately, once an order is processed, we cannot change the credit card number

Can I cancel my order?

No. All sales are final. No refunds or exchanges.

 Is the ticket price tax deductible?

Tickets are partially tax-deductible. The portion of your ticket purchase price that exceeds the fair market value of the event is tax-deductible. For more information please contact KCRW Membership between 10am and 5pm, Monday – Friday at 310-314-4635.
