Liesl

Hometown: Wyong via Mullumbimby/Leksand/Nivelles
Tags: folk, alternative, acoustic

With roots in both Sweden and Australia, Nick and Liesl’s influences are wide; from folk music to pop, blues and soul, the couple mix infectious melodies with insightful lyrics, beautiful voices and trademark harmonies. Since forming in 2007, they count three releases and have performed at over 60 festivals at home and abroad, including The Woodford Folk Festival where they recently pulled crowds of 2,000 to their sets. In five years they have completed just as many European tours and worked with some of Australia’s top musicians while independently producing their own award-winning records. The critically acclaimed album Feather (2011) and the EP’s Friend and Lover (2013) and Wyong River (2008) have received national and local airplay in Australia and Europe, and songs from all three releases feature in a new musical named after the album title track. ‘Feather: A Musical Portrait’ is premiering at the New York Musical Theatre Festival this July 2013. “13 tracks of amazing lyrics and sound. Honestly, Feather is one of the best albums I’ve heard in forever” (Rhythms, May 2011)

“Wow! That’s how I felt when I started this review, and that’s definitely how Feather will leave you feeling. (thedwarf.com.au, May 2011)

“gobsmackingly powerful & melodic vocals – think Angus Stone/Katie Noonan… thoughtful lyrics, fine musicianship… wonderfully eclectic folk/pop/soul style… simply beautiful album” (Reverb, June 2011)

“‘Feather’ is a lovingly crafted group of songs by a talented and passionate pair of songwriters with beautifully intuitive voices.” (Aaron Nash, dB magazine, July 2011)

‘combines classy acoustic-folk music with exceptional songwriting. I can’t recommend Feather highly enough. Nick and Liesl have definitely earned… 5/5’ Its My Kind of Scene 2012
